Stripe to set up new engineering hub in Dublin – Tech Growth
Engineering Hub for Dublin
The fastest growing online payments company in the world has announced that it is opening an engineering hub in Dublin to complement its European headquarters in the Irish capital. The new Dublin based team will be working on Stripe’s core payments product, which is used by some of the biggest companies in the world such as Target, Under Armour, Deliveroo, DocuSign, HubSpot, Adidas, Slack, and Unicef to name a few.
When asked why the firm had chosen Dublin for their new team, Patrick Collison, chief executive and co-founder, explained that “Dublin has come into its own as a technology sector and is really going from strength to strength.” Collison went on to say that the regulatory landscape, the tax landscape, cost of living, talent pool and access to flights were all contributory factors to their decision to expand in Dublin.
While the new team will initially consist of a couple of dozen employees, Collison can see it getting much larger in years ahead. He elaborated by saying that “…this is not just tertiary, it’s not just an experiment or a side project, we’ll be working on our core offerings in Dublin.” The decision to chose Dublin over Silicon Valley is being seen as a big one. According to Stripe’s Head of Engineering David Singleton, the decision to take engineering outside of the US was a major milestone for the company.
