A.I. in Ireland - Discover an industry with a life of its own

A.I

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that enables computers and machines to learn from experience. It deals with the simulation of intelligent behaviour in computers. Its applications range from game-playing robots to robotic manufacturing to data analysis.

Despite warnings from the late Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk regarding AI threats, the majority of AI development currently uses human reasoning as a guide to provide better services and products, rather than trying to create a duplicate or replica of the human mind.

AI allows machines to sense, reason, and act. The potential benefits are endless and it will affect nearly all industries. AI can be found across a wide number of industries in Ireland such as; Healthcare. Finance, Gaming, Communications, Transportation, Marketing, Pharmaceuticals, Agriculture, FinTech and more.

The above clip is from 2011. To see what AI is capable of today see the clip at the end of this article.

Examples of AI in action

Amazon builds a lot of its business on the machine-learning system, as a subdivision of AI. Machine learning is of high importance to Amazon. “Without ML, Amazon.com couldn’t grow its business, improve its customer experience and selection, and optimize its logistic speed and quality.”

Google have their own AI website (www.ai.google) where they describe their AI mission as the following; "Our mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful, and AI is enabling us to do that in incredible new ways - solving problems for our users, our customers, and the world."
